How can I get a "Past Item" back into the "current Items" list in the
Notification Area?

Starting the associated program should get you that item back. If this
doesn't work: "How to Clear Past Items from the Notification Area"

Right click on Start button, select Properties, Taskbar, Customise,
scroll down to Past Items, select required item and scroll bar under
Behaviour offers option. Make selection.
