I've been dealing with windows xp that crash a lot....until the point where
i've figured out the hard drive is at fault and i have replaced it.
But i need to get some files off the old hard drive, not many just one
program and some backups.
at the moment when i boot up the old hard drive it only goes to the xp start
screen and goes black.
i've tried the system recovery disk and have got as far as the command
prompt for which windows and admin password, what are my options to enter
here? is there a default admin password as it was not me who set up the
computer?
any help would be great.

thanks, sean

Connect your old disk as a slave disk, then copy your files to
the new disk.

Creating backup files on the main disk makes little sense. If
you have important files then you must back them up to a
removable medium, e.g. a 2.5" disk in an external USB case.
