Suspicious phone calls

I have also received sever suspicious phone calls from someone with a thick foreign accent claiming that there is a major problem with my computer and they are authorize by Microsoft to correct it. It seemed like they were trying to get remote access to my computer. I started to follow the instructions as I know some companies use foreign organizations but it just did not seem right. I discontinued the call and shut down my computer. I can't find any information on the Microsoft web site either saying this is legit or it is someone trying to pull a scam. Does anyone know?
