Surface RT - how to play .MOD, .MOI files

I would really like to play some precious videos on my Surface RT that were taken on a home camcorder of my late Mother which are .MOI and .MOD files. When I try to play them I receive an error message saying format not supported. However, a pop up message does indicate that there is an application available which will play these files. Does anyone know which one I need to instal, there are so many in the Windows Store to choose from, how am I to know which one will work? I don't want to pay for an application and then find it useless. I would be most grateful for any suggestions. Thanks. Sue.
