Stupid mistake is my data retrievable?

I accidentally took my 500gb ex. and added a partition. Windows
recognizes the drive but says both partitions need to be formated the
added partition of 99g's and the leftover parition of 300somtthing
g's, I never reformatted the drive just added partitions. is it
possible to retrieve the data I had on the drive before my moron
mistake of partitioning the drive?

If you simply created a new partition from free space...your data should be
there.
You will need data recovery software however.

If you deleted an existing partition,,then re-created...the recovery will be
more difficult however

Thank you so very much, is there any software that you recommend I
should use?

I've use this one and it's worked for me...

there are plenty more though...there could be better ones for all I know
