Original title: Disappearing Icons
This has been going on since I first upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 and now it persists in a fresh install of Windows 8.1 I will save something to my desktop, close all my programs and get ready to open another program and *BAM* what I just saved on my desktop is missing, so I have to go back through my myriad of programs and either find or recreate the file that just disappeared so that I can save it again for modification in another program.
And this isn't even fresh stuff, it happens with old stuff as well. I installed LOTRO about three months ago, it was running fine until today. The shortcut for LOTRO is missing, and so are a number of other files from the desktop.
This also happens in other random places on the hard drive. I had a sermon I wrote about a year ago, needed it for Lent last week and poof, my sermon was missing. I searched and everything and it was nowhere to be found on the hard drive. I even tried one of those file uneraser programs and that couldn't even find it.
What's going on? Ever since Windows 7, I've had files disappearing randomly and as I said, it is continuing to happen in a fresh install of Windows 8.1. Already did a sfc /scannow and that said everything is a-ok beautiful and in mint condition.
