Duke,

you are better to keep to your original thread than to keep starting new
ones. We won't know if you are following our posts or not.

I cant get to a file that gives me any option to "open with", and the site
you suggested didn't have any info that addresses my problem that I could
find. When OE is opened my security settings are secure.. I have XP Pro sp2
and all the updates I think.. Is there any way to get the right click thing
to work on trying to open attachments? I cant get it to work anymore it
seems..and cant find a way "in" to reset this feature if it is in fact
possible..Help???? :-) Duke

Hi dfrog..Forgive me as I am new to this group..I didn't realize I was
starting a new "thread"..sorry..How do you stay on the original one? I
thought I was doing the right thing :-) Also, I have followed all the
suggestions so far, but nothing seems to work right..When I went to folders,
the PowerPoint shows it is there, and when I tried to put "new" it said it
was already installed..So guess something didn't go right on the
installation of power point as it wont automatically go there as suggested
by one other helpful person..I am just at odds trying to figure why it cant
seem to be set right..Duke

Hiya Duke,
you've got it right now :-)
by 'replying' to my post, you've kept within the latest thread you started -
it's as easy as that :-)

If I remember correctly in your original thread you said you had downloaded
the FREE Powerpoint program.
Powerpoint is a commercial (not free) bit of software, what I think you may
have downloaded was the FREE Powerpoint Viewer from Microsoft. This isn't
the whole shooting match, but it does allow one to view a Powerpoint file,
and maybe print from it but that's all.

A Powerpoint file would be identified to us as " ****.ppt " where ****
would be the name given to the file and " .ppt " tells us the obvious (it's
Powerpoint).

Going back to your email with a .ppt file attached - open the email so that
you can see the narrow 'attachment' window near the top showing the "
****.ppt " attachment, (or whatever it is called), right click on this
attachment and from the dropdown menu select 'save as' and you will have the
option to save this file onto your hard drive. Make a note of the name of
the file so that you can identify it later, and make a note of where you are
saving it to (maybe 'Desktop' or 'My Documents').

Then go to that 'saving place', find the file in question, right click on it
and select 'open with'. From the dropdown menu select "ppview.exe" (which I
think is your Powerpoint Viewer program).
If ppview.exe is not in the list, then you will need to select "add
application" and from the 'OpenExpert' window that opens, select ppview.exe
and OK out of it.
If ppview.exe is not in this list you will need to find where it is - select
'Other' button nr bottom of OpenExpert window and manoeuvre the 'Open With'
window to where ppviewer.exe is installed. Select ppviewer.exe and OK out of
it.
This puts ppviewer.exe into your 'open with' menu.

Then go back to where you saved your ****.ppt file from your email, right
click it and select 'ppviewer.exe' from the list.

And if indeed you have got ppviewer.exe on your hard drive, and the
attachment to your email is a .ppt file, it should jollywell open.

hope this helps - let us know
