Hey pete, if you're here, I am trying to create a step by step tutorial or flow chart for "remote" virus removal, can you help please?

Hi Mike,

I did consider this a few years back, but soon went off the idea.
In my personal opinion, it's not worth the hassle.
Some tools will require that the internet is disconnected ( and will automatically do this) ... I'm thinking CF for one.
Quite a few others will require a reboot to finish the cleaning..... so you lose the connection again.
Some users will have a lot of person details on their systems..... what if they report that some have been accessed or used.
Could you prove that it wasn't you that accessed them?
What if you saw evidence of illegal activity on the system...... do you report it or do you ignore it?
Ignoring it may lead you to become an accessory.

Like i say... it's not worth the hassle.

I had figured the same thing which you wrote in your OP, was just wondering how other companies are able to do so but thanks for confirming!

Understand your viewpoint on is it worth it? On the same note: what if I take my computer in to a shop? I hand computer over, leave, pick it up in a day or two... what all did they get to snoop through while in their hands? This computer wouldn't be online right now if it hadn't been for a remote intercept-help- from a trusted family member who is med-to advanced on computers. I had so many conflicting programs, not set up well to interact with each other: needed some things set up as 'on demand', but ended up learning to not install 2-4 things at once... run one for a bit, then move on if desired. I either HAD to have remote, or take it in for another $110.00 service call..., so there are times!

I could have slowly been walked through removal of programs, and adding them one at a time, but at that point, after having already spent 80+ hours on here trying to improve it- I had only slowed it down more, till it was just barely at a crawl. Didn't have time that week to try again! Just impossible to spend the time, so, computer basically down until I could arrange time: being as I am novice and I am slower than molasses in Jan., too! What's the answer? Watch what he did, via remote!

I've remotely connected a few times for malware removal but, I agree with Pete, I wouldn't recommend it.

I only do it for people that I have known for a long while and that I'm friendly with. It isn't easy and it can be dangerous for both parties.

My point being.....
If you take the system to a shop, then you know who has had access to your system and where they are based.
The same goes for a family friend.
If I access your system.... you only know me as a name on the internet, you have no idea of where I live.
Plus, if I live in a different country .... you will find it very difficult to get any redress for anything I do whilst on your system.

Good course, Cindy! I have rarely needed or considered remote, and then, this last time, it was my family; brother-in-law, Richard-who is part of my new computer build! I have had and kept team viewer on here for years, though, as I am over an hour away from civilization: there was a computer store that would come in remotely a couple of years back, if the need arose. Love those two young boys! Building a business! It was just a joke to try to get this up there, or reconnect with them to retrieve it when done... And I agree: to open your computer to ...who knows? is risky for all!

I agree with you, totally, starbuck! You may be staff, expert, and totally respected and trusted here, but that still does not tell me you...(or anyone else) who I open this computer up to remotely is forthright/upright... Not just that, as you said: what recourse would I have if simply a stranger? A local store or VERY well known friend or family is what appears the wisest course!
