spybot,adaware

brummyfan

I am currently using Fsecure antivirus program could some one tell me whether
this is sufficient enough to protect my PC from unwanted guests or do I need
more programs to secure.
I very frequently seen MVPs mentioning spybot and adaware and I haven't got
a clue what these programs are. Thank you in advance.
 
A decent Firewall, one that blocks both incoming & outgoing, win firewall
only blocks incoming
Adaware & Spybot are both free malaware apps, they detect malaware etc not
the same as a virus.
The free versions have to explictly updated & run, they do not monitor in
the background.
You cannot use Adaware with FSecure, it conflicts, whether this is
applicable only to certain versions of FSecure I couldnt say
MS also has Windows Defender, a malaware app, still free I believe.

I have downloaded Adaware and scanned my PC it showed me 207 infections but
I do not know what to do with those infections whether to export them to
another folder and delete them or just leave them in quarantine.
I do appreciate your help.
 
It depends what these 'infections' are likely they are cookies?
If you delete cookies it doesn harm, other than in certain sites you may
have remembered passwords / settings which may be lost if you delete the
cookie

One-click applications are not the answer to your situation!
It's time you're educate yourself and initiate some kind of security
concept!

1. For day-to-day work/browsing operate as a 'normal' user i.e. utilize the
Limited User Account (LUA) and use the Administrator Account (AC) only
when absolutely necessary.

2. Secure, tighten up your Operating System (OS).

3. Keep your OS and all software on it updated/patched.

4. Reconsider usage of IE and OE.

5. Don't expose Services to public networks.

6. Use the in-build firewall and if applicable use a router.

7. Do not to use TCP/IP as transport protocol for NetBIOS, SMB and RPC and
leave TCP/UDP ports 135, 137-139 and 445 closed.

8. Routinely practice Safe-Hex.

9. Routinely backup your data; Develop a Back-Up Concept.

10.Familiarize yourself with 'flatten' and rebuild your OS.

11.Review your installed 3rd party software applications;
Remove clutter.

provided.
