I noticed that the first (week) release of sp3 was a 316MB exe file. A few
weeks later all I could find online was a 577MB iso file. What is the
difference?

The smaller one is an executable, you run it. The larger is a ISO that
when written with a program like imgburn
http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download will make a CD just like
you would order from MS themselves. See PA Bear's response.

Well, people have it wrong on both counts. The ISO of SP3 has SP3 plus
a few other IT related tools like sysprep included. The regular
download is just the service pack. You don't need the ISO unless you
are an Administrator and require the sysprep that's designed for SP3.
