I believe my system was hit by a virus last week. I'm writing from a spare
computer now. I have Windows XP Home Edition with SP2 loaded.
when I rebooted after doing my normal end of day cleanup...on reboot I got
this msg "Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or
corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM"...so naturally I went to Microsofts
page
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;307545
I followed the instructions after getting to the Recovery Console...and lo
and behold on reboot it loaded SP1 under a new partition!
Now I can't access any administrative logon and I don't know how to delete
this dang new partition!
When it boots up it keeps giving me the option of going to Windows XP Home
Edition or a partition simply designated as "1"
Help! Thanks
