I have both a Sony DW-U18A and Sony CRX320E in my PC. Whilst both read
CD/DVD's neither will write CD/DVDs. Niether show a "Recording" tab under
Properties. I have tried:

Re-installing the drivers, by removing and re-installing the hardware.
Updating the Registry Editor.
Trouble shooting.
and reading far too many blogs on the subject.

Can any one help?

Have you checked in services to see if the IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service
might be disabled. Should be on manual or automatic. Course that would only
help CD burning. You would need some 3rd party software to work with DVD's.
