Hi Folks,

Im new here and just popped my head in looking for some help on software I require.

Imagine you have 10 laptops that you give out to members off staff regularly for a certain amount off days. Now imagine that these members of staff are a bit reluctant to return these laptops?

Lets say you want to give out a laptop to someone for 3 days lone. Is there any software out there that you can use to make the laptop stop functioning after this time period has elapsed? Forcing them to return the goods as they are no longer any use to them?

All help appreciated.

Andy

There should be a way to install something to to shut down the system after x amount of time. I think this would require you to hire a programmer to do this. I haven't hear of anything that could do this being available now however.

You might want to look into online cafe software. Alot of these boot you from the system after x amount of time. Not sure if that would work for you though, as they may need to be connected to a network.

Ok what I thought I best post what Iam thinking myself in case any off you guys need this in future or can help with the proccess.

Job Scheduler?

I schedule a job, for example screensaver to activate on a set day and password protect it. Or schedule anthing to happen on a specific day and repeat every minute "Freecell even" and password it, this would sulely bug someone enough to return the laptop??

Sorry Im kinda thinking out loud here.

I assume simply stealing the laptop is out of the question? Otherwise they would just format it.

That would work well as long as the person doesn't remove the task. To get arround that you could set your self up as admin and then set the user up as a regular user. They couldnt' remove the task then.
