I believe I can trace this back to the install of SP3 on our XP systems, but I am not 100% sure since only recently have more people come forward with the issue. We are running Windows XP Pro SP3 fully patched and Server 2003 Standard fully patched. We are occasionally getting a delayed write failure from some computers on the network writing to our file servers. I did quite a bit of research on this topic before posting here and came to the conclusion this Microsoft article is exactly our problem: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321733 None of the other articles or conditions that I could find seem to come close. The article is an exact match for the problem I am seeing. The fix does not work because it is for SP1 and "should be fixed" under later service packs. The problem is, we are already running the latest service pack. The work around is not a good option in my opinion.

I did find a thread in forum regarding SBS 2008 server that points out the problem I am describing exists there as well. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-CA/winserverfiles/thread/839de3e5-b678-432b-83ca-71498d90e59b. Does anyone have another idea? Turning SMB signing off to me seems like a poor "fix" for this issue.
