I recently removed a trojan virus for my system and my computer seems to be
running slower than it should. Especially the internet. I'm using IE7 and it
seems pages are loading slower than normal and some pages aren't loading
properly, even with my high speed cable connection. I ran Regcare and it
found over 1000 problems with my registry and file associations. However it
did not fix them because I didn't purchase the software. Does anyone know of
any reliable freeware I can use to fix these problems and speed up my PC? Any
advice and help is greatly appreciated!

Registry Repair programs aren't needed and cause more misery than they are
known to fix. Which trojan did you have on your system?

Hi CJ,

Yeah... sounds like your problem is related to whatever remains from your
trojan removal. See rich's post (same thread), he's given some good ideas
for free Malware scanners. pick 2, install them, Update them, and Rescan
your system in Safe mode and normal mode... dump whatever each finds.

And a good thing you didn't purchase it. Programs like these are snake oil.
The 1000 "problems" it found aren't problems at all and don't hurt you in
any way. They are probably mostly registry entries that it *thinks* you no
longer need. If you were to let it delete them, they would be gone, but your
system would be no faster. But your system might well have all sorts of real
problems (possibly even including the inabilty to boot) that it created.

Look elsewhere for what causes your problems, and avoid any software thyat
claims to be a magical panacea to fix things.

As I said, there are none, freeware or otherwise. Finding the cause of
problems and fixing them is not a task that software is good at. It takes
knowledge, skill, and work. Don't look for magical solutions.
