Re: Sick Of Vista? Try Out Open Source Linux Ubuntu 7.10 RTW Instead, Just FYI.

Kevin.
Why don't you post information about Windows to a Linux newsgroup?
My guess is few if anyone else does that because the people there
there know it is discourteous to post such off topic information and
most respect the topic.

To answer your question.
No, Windows Vista works well on two of my older computers.
I have no reason to switch and you continue at failing to give me any
reasons.
Further, the trolls that peddle Linux here leave a bad example of the
Linux community. Although I think they are not representative of the
Linux community as a whole.
For me, your reasoning is entirely WRONG.

You will soon switch to something else.
Your history is evidence.
When Windows Vista was in Beta, you had everything good to say about
it and bad about Linux etc.
That continued until you voluntarily dropped out of the Beta.
You then blamed Windows Vista for imaginary problems because you were
now unable to get later builds of Vista.
Your inability to get new builds was the Microsoft Beta team, MSDN and
anyone else you cared to blame.
You conveniently ignored the fact you dropped out of the
Vista/Longhorn Beta, not once, but twice.
Sour Grapes.
When you finally got Windows Server 2008, it again was the best.
You change your favorite as fast as something new is released.
It seems something is good if you can get it and bad if not.
You will probably do the same at the release of Windows 7.
Unfortunately we will probably hear all about it then.

The Reason That I Converted Over To Open Source Linux Ubuntu Is Quite Clear:
Microsoft Does Not Care About All The Feed Back That I Recently Filed On The
Windows Server 2008 Release Candidate 0 Public Beta, And They Will Not Give
Me A Copy Of Windows Vista Service Pack One, And/Or Windows XP Service Pack
Three, Just FYI. Therefore, Instead Of Continuing To Run The Microsoft
Windows Server 2008 Public Beta, And Continuing To Provide Error Reports And
Feed Back That They Don't Even Care About, I Switched To Open Source Linux
Ubuntu 7.10 RTW, And I Suggest That Every One Else Do The Same Thing, Just
FYI.

Re: Sick Of Vista? Try Out Open Source Linux Ubuntu 7.10 RTW Inste

Kevin,

Microsoft cannot incorporate everybody's feedback into the product. They do
listen though and take it into consideration suggestions for interim updates
or future releases of Windows. You can't just hold a grudge against the
Company because you were not accepted into a particular beta program, its
just not the correct approach. I know you care genuinely about Windows, but
this is not the way to react. Getting upset over not getting your request in
it is just making the situation more complex.

Windows XP Service Pack 3 and Windows Vista Service Pack 1 are simply a
collection of updates that have been released since the product was RTMed
and are rolled up into one file to make it easier to deploy, update and
manage Windows. Yes, there are additional adds on to improve compatibility
and protect the OS in addition to supporting new standards and technologies,
for instance, XP SP3 will support new encryption technologies and Network
Address Translation.

You will get both in good time, being in beta is not special, yes you get to
give feedback and so on, but its not eventful or critical, they are just
Service Packs and like Jupiter says, you really had your chance. I think you
are a good person Kevin, you love technology and you like expressing it, but
you have to do it in way that others can appreciate and commend you for it.
I hope you do get to test future releases of Windows and share your ideas.

Re: Sick Of Vista? Try Out Open Source Linux Ubuntu 7.10 RTW Inste

Why not just use them all.

I have Windoze on 3 PC's
Ubuntu on another
ClarkConnect (Linux Server)
OS 10 on a iBook
All on a combo of weird and wireless

To tell someone that is posting for help here to switch is crazy.
I'll bet a large % of the people that ask questions here, bought
a PC with vista on it and have no idea how to install a os.

Any form of linux is not for a Newbie, unless it has been setup
by someone who knows what they are doing.
Even then....

All that said, I do like Unbutu, If could get my windoze apps to work, and
not
be slower than molasses in the winter I would switch. I know I can dual
boot.
But that’s a pain!!

/Rant Off

Re: Sick Of Vista? Try Out Open Source Linux Ubuntu 7.10 RTW Inste

"The Reason That I Converted Over To Open Source Linux Ubuntu Is Quite
Clear: Microsoft Does Not Not Care About All The Feed Back..."
This tells a lot.
It has nothing to do with the suitability for Windows or Linux.
It is some type of vengeance.
Chances are extremely low someone would switch from one product to
another product because you are vengeful.

Microsoft reads all feedback.
What makes you think they do not care?
Do not assume yours is not considered just because you hear nothing.
Again, members of the Technical Beta can easily see what Microsoft is
doing with their bug and you know that.
Other testers can as well as long as the originator set it to public.
But you withdrew from the Beta and voluntarily forfeited all you now
seem to want.

"And They Will Not Give Me A Copy Of Windows Vista Service Pack One,
And/Or Windows XP Service Pack Three"
The Beta testers have access to them
The same Beta program you voluntarily withdrew...Twice.
You would still have access except for the choice you made...Twice.

Are you going to say "Goodbye/Farewell" as often as you change operating
systems--
(which is likely more often than you change your underwear)--each one you
install being the best thing since sliced bread until you install the next

Yah... It's always about "Kevin." They wouldn't give Kevin this, they
wouldn't give Kevin that. Kevin sure does seem to be one selfish
in-din-bid-ual. Who bases his choices on OS purely on what is, or is not,
given to him.

The trouble is that Alias and others can't understand that people can run
all their programs if they get windows working including the open source
ones but not if they switch to Ubuntu.
So while its good for someone who is building a machine and doesn't want
windows applications, it is worse than useless to the visitors who come here
looking for help.
Ubuntu as recommended by Alias and co. is even useless for someone making a
server out of an old machine as it has too much baggage and there are better
alternative Linux distros for that.
On the whole the only reason to suggest it here is for its irritability
factor so if you find it irritable kill file as required.
