Shutdown (instead of Reboot) on recent Security Update

Last Security Update required a complete Shutdown.

In the past, only a Reboot was required.

Never had to Shutdown before, to install a Security Update.

Something not right here?

What update? Windows version?

I've never had a Windows Update require a shutdown. Perhaps if you told
us what update this was and the exact message someone might be able to
help you.

My apologies.

XP SP2.

I don't know which update, that's the thing.

It was 4-5 days ago.

I went to reboot, because a "ccApp.exe" was not responding, and next to the
"Turn Off" button, there was this little red(?) security shield, and it said
that I needed to Shutdown to install the Security Update.

Someone told me that no Windows Security Update (for any Windows version)
requires a Shutdown. Period.

So, I'm confused. Should I be concerned?

No, you should not be concerned as this is normal behaviour. In your case
the update(s) had been downloaded but not yet installed so you saw what you
saw.

What you installed will be found in WINDOWSUPDATE.LOG...

How to read the Windowsupdate.log file
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902093

....and at Windows Update website (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com) in
Update History.

I wouldn't be concerned, no.

CCAPP.EXE points to a Norton application so I would make certain that your
Norton application is working properly and that you can successfully run
LiveUpdate manually, however.

If you were to Google for ccApp.exe you would find that it is part of
Symantec Crapware.

Works. It is not surprising that something having to do with Symantec or
McAfee is causing problems. That is why few, if any, knowledgeable people
anything from these two companies.

You really have to pay attention to see where the updates and downloads are
originating from. Many programs now check for and then auto update by
themselves. Just because it happens by itself does NOT mean it is the
operating system doing it.
