Hi Rookey,
It will be helpful if you sent the exact wording for your issue, waht
message and what operating system, protection software you have, IE version.
Look in the event viewer for error message may led to the causer.
Here is a similar issue or may near from your issue:

Hi Nass,

Thanks for the response. The exact phrasing and error message is shown below.

Service Executable has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience.

szAppName : MsMpEng.exe szAppVer : 1.1.1593.0 szModName : unknown
szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 01473030

I'm using Windows XP Professional with Firewall enabled, IE7.0, Win
Defender, Spyhunter, Spamfighter and Sophos anti-virus.

Thanks again.

Rookey

The error message refer to Windows Defender, try to uninstall it and run
disk Clean up thne defrag.
You have more than two Anti-spyware program installed, you really need just
two, it depends on your choise and the one you feel it good.
If you wish you can uninstall windows defnder for good.
If you want to use it then try to download the latest version from windows
website for defender.
HTH.
