I recently increased the RAM in my server from 2GB to 8GB, however windows
server 2003 only show the total ram as 3GB.

what do i need to do to make it show 8GB. Will server 2003 be using the
whole 8GB RAM while it is only showing 3GB.

I increased the RAM amount due to virtual memory errors. Even after
instaling the extram RAM i am still getting Virtual memory errors.

Will a second CPU help with virtual memory errors.

Hello Joeb,

If you are using Standard edition you are limited to 4GB physical shown with
3 to 3.5 GB. If you use Enterprise edition you have to add the /PAE option,
see here: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/platform/server/PAE/PAEmem.mspx

Hi thanks for replying,

does this mean that the extra 4gb of RAm is wasted and will not be utilised.

if the motherboard can accept the 8GB of Ram why can't windows show it all.

Hello Joeb,

No way with Standard edition to use more then 4 GB RAM, that's by design.
So your additional 4 are not usable.
