I have two old Star SP300 serial receipt printers that were working fine
until recently. Now, the I cannot print at all to the printer and after a
single unsuccessful try at printing to the port MODE COM# gives "Device COM#
is not currently available." I can delete the port in Device Manager and get
it back and I have tried several different BIOS IRQ settings.
MODE also shows port setting that are different from windows, 1200-7-1-none
and 9600-8-1-none. I have replicated these results with two different
machines, both HP but otherwise very different.
I have PCI serial card on order in case this is just a hardware issue, but
this looks like an OS issue to me.
