we changed to selective start up last week on a lap top, running XP, by
taking some things out of the start up menu, under msconfig.
Now she seems to be having some problems when she restarts, like a message
, system configuration utility" pop up that says she is in Diagnostic or
Selective start up mode, causing this message to be displayed and the
utility to run every time Windows starts.
I did not think that should come up, And I am pretty sure the computer was
restarted after we took the items out of start up,But she seems to feel it
may be due to making the start up changes.
She also stated"my whole desktop is highlighted and I can't change it, until
I fix this."
I said she could try system restore, but when she goes there, she said there
were no restore points, just a place to turn system restore on and off.
I don't know why this would be. Is there a separate place to actually RUN
system restore?
Why would the window be coming up saying she is in Diagnostic or Selective
start up mode, every time she re starts?
I did not feel that removing items from the start up menu would cause this
problem, I have had mine like that for over 2 years, with no problems, but I
am running win 98 SE, and really don't know a whole lot about XP.
I REALLY need to try to help her with this.
I don't have the system here, she was telling me this over yahoo IM.
Hope this makes sense
