Hi,

I am working on a computer with XP Home, SP2, and Internet Explorer v7 was
inadvertantly installed when the owner failed to notice autoupdates was set
to Auto install. :(
..

so we removed v7 via the Add/Remove Programs, and since then there are a few
sites that will not allow connection. Currently running v6.0 SP2, cipher
strength 128bit

I have checked settings in the Advance tab of Internet Options.. checked
item "Use SSL2.0" which was not checked for some reason... that brought back
comcast.net, and a couple of others, but .....

sites I can't open are http://www.hotmail.com, local bank site
http://www.suntrust.com... it says the page isn't available or there's a
connection problem. ( I can get to the site on another computer on my LAN,
so it's not the site), I have checked the firewall (it's off) I have removed
a third party popup blocker, I have reset Security and Privacy to defaults.
I've done a "repair" on the tcp/ip,

What else would v7 have messed with??

I'm just about ready to just do a fresh install... this computer was working
prior to v7 being installed.

Any ideas of what to check or change?

thanks,
niteowl

If you don't get a good reply here don't forget to try one of the many
internet explorer newsgroups like
microsoft.public.windows.intetexplorer.ie6.setup
