Dan

i have been trying configure the best settings and im not sure. can you take
a glance at these settings (below) and see if something stands out as a real
risk.

If I am picking up an over-spill of Wifi 54g 8. lynksys from a nearby Hotel
and I am using a VPN-hotshield with Vista settings at "public" with all
"sharing/discovers" off...?should any Firewall settings be allowed?
Currently i have "core networking", "Hot sync (Palm) and "remote assistance"
=3 exceptions. The computer is a 2007 and has not really denied me anything i
have tried with it. Just minor blips. I use it for basics and entertainment.

Below are some settings:
Wireless Network Properties--
Name: linksys.
SSID: linksys.
Network Type: Access point.
Network Availability: All users.
Checked Box: Connect automatically.
Checked Box: Connect to preferred Network Available.
Not Checked: Connect even not broadcasting.
Security--
Security Type: No Authentication (open).
Encryption Type: None..

Advanced settings “Broadband 802.11g Adapt Properties
WZC IBSS Channel No: 11

If the firewall is active on the machine, and the exception for File and
Printer sharing is disable on the FW, then no one the wireless can come at
the machine and attack it.

Mr Arnold
Thank you for your advice. You seem to be knowledgeable in Networking.
Could you look over my "recent post linkâ€, there’s a Question or two you
might advice. If not thanks just the same.

I don't see anything like this as some kind of option in Windows Mail
concerning someone making a post to a NG. And I don't think I want to know I
how to do this. I don't mind reading posts, but I don't like it that much.
:)

If you want me to read the post in question, then I suggest you copy/paste
it to this thread.

what does windows mail have to do with the cost of apples?

we are at the windows screen in vista community. and i just opened your
post. Now: if i click your blue name-top right, it will take me to your
profile. at your profile i can click another blue link that reads "resent
post by user". This is what i was saying.

Perhaps because that is what he is using to view this newgroup? I'm
using Agent and their are a zillion of other newgroup readers non of
which have the option you talk about.

You are using the web interface. Many of us use a real newsreader, like the
one in WM, instead.
We don't always see the same posts, and we don't see what you're talking
about (profiles).

No, that may be where *you* are, but most of us are reading this
newsgroup with a newsreader--Windows Mail, or some other one (I use
Agent, for example).

You are using the awful web interface to participate in this
newsgroup, and as far as I'm concerned, that's the slowest, clunkiest,
most error-prone method there is. I recommend that you do yourself a
favor and switch to a newsreader, such as Windows Mail, which comes
with Windows Vista. You'll almost certainly find that the newsgroup
experience will be greatly superior. See
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/outlookexpressnewreader.htm (that's
about Outlook Express, but it's almost the same in Windows Mail).
