Security centre failing to pick up Defender and Avast

Hey

I picked up Vista Home Premium on the day on release and as the Security
Centre is concerned I’ve had no problems what so ever

I turned on my PC this morning though to be greeted with a “You Computer is
at Risk†message which I found kind of strange because I’ve never had one
before and there has been no changes made to the PC either

After I clicked on the balloon it told me that I had no antivirus protection
and no malware protection either
I’ve got Avast antivirus installed on the PC (I have done ever since for the
past couple of years) and Security Centre picked it up right away when I
first installed Vista, but now the only options I have is a “Find Now†which
takes me to a Microsoft page which talks about antivirus software
The other strange thing is that it also says no Malware protection either
and then the option to turn on Defender, which, for some reason fails, it
just scan for updates and then says “No updates were available at this timeâ€
and then that’s it, I just get the “Turn on†option again

I know that there was a recent program update to Avast, but that was a few
days ago, but if anyone has any thoughts on why this might be happening then
I would be very grateful

Thank you

Thank you very much for your reply

I found out what the problem was a few hours later though, somehow Vista got
corrupted (error messages on startup, other things not working due to files
missing or broken ect) so I had to do a reinstall, but thank you once again
for your reply

Bye
