Hi,

I had buy an external HDD. First time i use it in office, it work
properly. while i plug it in my own pc, i realise that it cant work
properly with it. i don know what problem of this.

While i plug into slot, the pc is detecting the driver and try to
install it. After a minute, a message pop up in the right bottom
"problem occurred during hardware installation your new hardware might
not work properly". i hear that my external HDD release a noisy sound,
like busying searching data to run.

So, i need you all help me to solve my problem. thank.

Regards,

Does you computer have USB 2.0 connectors? Rt click MyComputer>select
Properties>Hardware>Device Manager>
USB Controllers. You should see USB Enhanced Host Controller,
"Enhanced" being the 2.0 Indicator. If there then
rt click on each Controller and choose Uninstall. Restart and let WinXP
reinstall them.

Thanks for your reply.

i sure that my pc have USB2.0 Enhanced. Thanks a lot your idea.

Yesterday i ask my friend about this, he told me check my power supply
whether is sufficient to support my pc or not. Then i try to plug in
with two USB cable at front CPU there. It work a minute, then disappear
itself. while i plug it at back side. It suddenly can work properly.

Anybody know why such thing will happen? Why USB slot at the back side
is sufficient but at front side is insufficient? May somebody else tell
me know the answer?

Regards,

It could be the cable connecting the case front panel USB connector to
the motherboard cannot reliably support USB 2.0 speeds, especially if
it's a flat ribbon cable.
