Sorry to revive an old thread, but I have the same problem on Windows Server 2008 R2 (basically the same as Windows 7). As the background is fading when I change themes I see the shadow, but then it goes away (and on a light background leaves some ugly looking black around the white text). The selection rectangle and shadow were working a few weeks ago, but for some reson they stopped working. I know this isn't a vital Windows feature, but I really annoys me not to have it. I do have Aero enabled, working, etc. If anybody has the fix I would be very glad to get it.

Yes, it is strange that it will work if you let Windows choose and not

when you use Custom. Are you using the "Windows Aero" color scheme?

Hi!

I'm confused. I have got enabled all options in Visual Effects tab. But

there are two features that are not working (Use drop shadows for icon

labels on the desktop and Show translucent selection rectangle) and I

have a image as wallpaper with a black color background selected. I have

installed Windows Vista Business with SP1.

Somebody knows what is happening?

Thanks in advance!

The shadows on your desktop icons may be blending in with the black

Not sure why the translucent selection rectangle is not working for

you. Check here:

Thank you for your answer. But I have got no results :(

If I change background color for my wallpaper, I can see that icon text

changes to black or to white, depending the color selected as

background. For example, if I select a yellow color (255, 255, 128) as

desktop background the icon labels on desktop appears white :-?

For the translucent selection container I have activate checkbox, but

the feature doesn't work. I make a test on a Window XP and I have same

behavior. When I access to Visual Effects tab a "Let Windows choose..."

option is selected and translucent selection container works. If a

select a custom option and I check all options and apply then

translucent selection container doesn't work and I can not be able to

make work now. Extrange, isn't it?

Thanks in advance

Incorrect, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 share the same kernel and

both were developed in tandem, so they are the same, just with different

purposes and they are still 'Windows'. In fact when you install Windows

Server 2008 R2, it installs in workgroup mode, which is basically Windows 7

with the Windows Classic theme. You can install the Windows Aero experience

and it works just like Windows 7 as a desktop OS. Yes, there are certain

additional functionality when you promote it as a Domain Controller, but its

still Windows 7, just targeted as a NOS.
