hi
i have s video outlet on my laptop.
what is used for?
can i use it to connect to my television with s video cable and play movies
or clips on my computer to display on the my TV

it will tell you how

Yes ... and No.

It depends on the graphics card in your machine. Virtually all of them will
output the video image via the S-video port, once it is probably configured.
Some DVD player utilities will autodetect if a TV is connected to the
S-video output and route the signal to that port. The problem is that not
all graphic cards display the whole of the alternate picture on the S-video
port, instead, the port is a moveable window on the larger viseo image.

You will need to check your documentation and find out what is output and if
any adjustment is possible.
