Runtime Error!

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual
way.

Cidaemon.exe is a Microsoft indexing services.
Windows XP may run slowly and you may see multiple symptoms in Windows Task
Manager:

You receive several "Cidaemon.exe - application error" error messages

You can turn the Microsoft Indexing service OFF from the services control
panel by doing this:
open a run command and type in:
services.msc click [OK] on the services control panel locate the service
and change the status to Disable.
Run a disk Clean up and scan for malware on your computer and reboot.

Okay. I had caught and removed a virus several weeks ago, and that's when
the error messages began.

Could file corruption be a result? If so, is repair possible?

First try to run the System File checker (SFC) to correct/repair any damaged
system file/folders on your system.
Open a run command and type in:
sfc /scannow click [OK] you may need your XP CD installation Disk so get it
handy to insert it if it needed.

To run SFC, Windows is requesting Windows XP Professional SP2 CD. When I
insert my SP2 CD (which says on its cover that it's good for Home or
Professional), it gives me an error:

"The CD you provided is the wrong CD.
Please insert the Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD into your CD-ROM
drive."

I'm using the Home Edition of XP.

What should I do?

The CD you are trying to use contains SP2--just SP2. It is not Windows
XP Professional *with* SP2, which is what it is asking for. If your XP
Professional CD doesn't contain SP2, you can create one by a process
called slipstreaming.
