Windows 2000 Running Windows 2000 on the new Intel cpu's

Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of running Windows 2000 on the
newer Intel Duo and Quad processors? Will I have difficulties migrating my
programs or even installing Windows 2000 on these cpu based boards?

I ran win2k on a dual core, with no problems
Its not so much as to whether the o/s or apps can be installed, which they
can, but whether any of these are able to utilise the multi cores, most
cannot.

Win 2k should have no problem installing on a dual or quad core machine...
but it will not recognize more than 2 cores.

Also: If the motherboard does not have win2k chipset drivers, the machine
may not fully function.

In general I've been able to use XP drivers on the win2k machines I've set
up,
but there is of course no guarantee they'd work.

Can you provide more details on why Win 2k will recognize 2 cores and
not 4?

I don't have access to XP. Would you think loading Vista would be the
right thing with a quad core?

site

Because when win2k was written 4 core cpu's were in the future

That's correct. There is no way I can think of to get win2k to "see" quad
cores.
When Win2k was released, there was no such thing as quad core cpu's. Win2k
was desigend to support single or dual cpu's...
so will work on a dual core cpu

The bigger issue is the motherboard chipset drivers. Without them such
things as the HD controller may run in the PIO mode...
or certainly not at any optimized setting.

Unless the motherboard specifically has the win2k chipset drivers available,
there could be problems.

I have never tried using XP chipset drivers on a win2k system...so have no
idea if they would work or not.

Since XP and Win2k are pretty similar OS's I have often gotten XP drivers to
work in Win2k
but know for sure they will not always work
