I am going to try to replace a mobo on an XP computer as outlined in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/824125
Will it ask for a product key in the process?
What if it's running SP2 & I use an SP1 disk?
Obviously, I didn't get software, etc., with it.

Unless you replace the mobo with the same one (or one very similar)
you will probably have to perform a repair installation...
That is not too big of a deal...and most of the time it works fine.

Note: Since it seems you have sp2 installed...
and your XP cd is apparently SP1...the best thing to do would be to create a
new cd with sp2 slipstreamed .

You cannot use an sp1 cd to perform a repair install on sp2.

A less desireabole alternative would be to uninstall sp2...
but that can lead to some problems with software..

Either way back up your data first...
and as a precaution...uninstall your virus checker
