Remote Management w/RDC - XP Home?

What's necessary to set up an XP Home computer to allow it to be
remote managed with RDC by another XP-Home computer? I get a window's
dialog with message "The client could not connect to the remote
computer. Remote connections might not enabled or the computer might
be too busy to accept additional connections...". (It's not the second
part, the other computer is idle, it's got to be the "enabled" part)

Thanks,

Upgrade to Windows XP Professional.

As Carey pointed out - the solution is to upgrade to Windows XP Professional
(or superset OS) if you *must* utilize Microsoft's Remote Desktop to
remotely control the Windows XP (what is now HOME) computer. Windows Xp
Home Edition does not have built-in Remote Desktop capabilities. Remote
Assistance - yes, Remote Desktop - no.

However - nothing prevents you from installing a third party application -
like UltraVNC - to utilize to remotely control your Windows XP Home Edition
computer. That is my suggestion to you - as it costs you nothing. Google
for UltraVNC.

FWIW: UltraVNC is a very capable, reliable and stable
app. I use it probably about 90% of the time to get
from machine to machine. VERY capable little program!
Of course, it bypasses most security, just in case
you may have other users around, but it also allows
passwords and can be set to off easily, or to refuse
specific machines or only work in one direction. Short
learning curve too but there is a learning curve.

Gee Carey, that's not much of an explanation.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot.

I didn't realize they'd commented RDC out of XP-Home. I suppose they
had to find some way to differentiate it :-)

Pop:

Any good pointers to safe security setup for UltraVNC? I'd like to be
able to remote manage another computer that will eventually be 100
miles away... I'm wondering what I should do at both the router and
firewall level to make sure the other machine (and possibly my own) is
safe.

Thanks,
