Windows 2003 Remote file sharing for large files

We've got about 6 or 7 users in our office that work remotely on
occasion doing CAD and drainage work. Does anyone know of a good
solution for remote VPN users to deal with large files like CAD data
from AutoCAD and Microstation? I've entertained the idea of a
terminal server before on Server 2003 to have them log into for that
kind of work, but haven't gotten deep enough into it to know how well
that works... especially with bloat-ware Autodesk products. If these
users were only dealing with smaller files and lightweight software,
I'd be fully confident in a TS solution.

Having them copy the data to their local machines over VPN/FTP is not
really a very good solution, considering the slow speeds over WAN and
the dangers of having multiple versions of the same CAD data. Not to
mention the tape backup issues if things are not uploaded properly.
Has anyone had any experience working around this issue?

Right now we've got a dual-WAN SonicWALL Pro 2040 for VPN, which is
working great for regular use, but we're having to hack around to get
good results with CAD people working remotely...

In view of the large file sizes, remote access is your only option.
Try Remote Desktop first, then, if satisfied, install a Terminal
Server.
