SP3 probably won't help your sound problem. I'd put it on
anyway, as you will notice about a 10% bump up in performance.
It is a good patch.

You have to go to Dell's web site and download the audio driver
for your sound card. You will need the code off the back of your
computer to identify which computer you actually have. (Dell
gives directions on their web site as to how to find this code.)

You can also look for your Dell drivers disk. It should be
right next to your Dell Windows disk -- the one your friend used
to reinstall Windows.

Good luck. You are doing well. Most reinstall drop video,
sound, network, usb, chipset, yada, yada ...

Did your friend use the Dell CDs or the hidden Recovery partition to
reinstall Windows?

No Service Pack or other update is going to fix this problem.

Go try Windows Update - and you get two choices "express" - "Custom"
choose Custom - it'll show any other updates available besides the
recommended/critical...
and I'm sure withing there will be updates for the sound!

Windows Update wont do much to fix this problem and SP3 definitely will not fix the problem.

Go to the Dell support site http://support.dell.com
Put in the "express service code" for your Dell and go to downloads.
There you should be able to get the sound card drivers.
