Windows 2000 Registry Woes Courtesy of Adobe

Morning:

I recently allowed the adobe updater to upgrade my reader...

It didn't uninstall the Reader 9.0b.ocx file properly before loading the new
version and now the registry is looking for that OCX file...

I tried deleting the key that refers to it but Win 2K won't let me delete
the invalid registry key...

I asked Adobe and they sent me a utility to wipe the ocx files from the
computer and then I reloaded the new reader from their website...

It's still looking for the 9.0b ocx file...

Help...

Hi Dave:

Norton System Works is reporting the Active X issue...

It's saying:

The key"CLSID\{1171A62F-05D2-11D1-83FC-00A0C9089C5A}\InprocServer32" refers
to a missing file "C\WINNT\system32\Macromed\Flash\Flash9b.ocx"

Thoughts?
 
Is the file missing? Is it properly registered? Are there problems aside
from the system works message?

Yes, get rid of "Norton".

I am having some difficulties with boot-up ever since this happened...

Sometimes it does a partial post and halts...

I didn't have the problem until the Adobe fiasco...

How does one properly register a file?

Can you recommend a good reading source that thoroughly explains the registry?

Someone once told me the WIn 2k Pro Resource Kit had some good documentation
regarding this but I can't find a download source for it...

I went to the Microsoft website years back and found an article that said
the Res-kit was available on CD but didn't elaborate on it beyond the fact it
was available...

Thoughts on any of this?

This really doesn't help us understand the problem or why it is related to
the OCX you mentioned. Take a look at the link I posted for regsvr32 usage.

These may help you with the registry. Be sure to backup before editing the
registry.
