I had to reinstall windowsxp and I need to recover my old files, any
sugesstions? Thanks

How did you "reinstall"???......new installation from CD with a format??
Recovery Partition reinstall?? Repair Install??
there are different install methods and each one installs in a ceratin
manner...the New install with format means its all gone except what you just
installed...The Recovery Partition method usually does the same
thing..formats and then install back to just purchased condition..everything
else is gone. The repair install just fixes the XP install and sets it back
to whats on the CD...all updates would need to be done but your files would
still be there.
so what did you do??????????

You have to restore them from your backup medium.
If you did not back them up then this is the time to
review your backup philosophy. A 2.5" disk in an
external USB case is an excellent but low-cost backup
device.

I used the CD to reinstall, new installation. I found data recovery software,
that was able to find all my previous pictures and I was able to review them,
but to be able to save them, I need to spend $200 for the software. This mean
that the files are there somewhere in my computer and wanted to findout if
some of you familiare with how to get them from my computer without using
this software?

PS: I have most of my picture n back up, except some new ones.

Plz let me know if you can help.

Spend it.

And then spend fifty bucks for a good backup program.
