I have a problem recovering offline files.
Using the CSCCMD tool as provided by Microsoft, v1.1.
I am attempting to recover an offline cache that is recovered from a users
hard drive (broken laptop). I have copied the files to C:\CSC and shared CSC
folder (as the tool seems to suggest it requires a UNC path for the /EXTRACT
switch).
The command:
csccmd.exe /EXTRACT:\\compname\share /TARGET:C:\Restore
I get the error:
System error 31 has occurred.
A device attached to the system is not functioning.
If I run the command without the path for the extract switch, with the
csccmd tool in the C:\CSC folder, the command completes successfully, but
there is no output at C:\Restore. I have also tried the orginal command with
and without the /RECURSE switch, with no change in result.
Am I trying to attempt the impossible? This seems totally logical to me...
but it just doesn't seem to want to work.
