Is it possible to record streaming audio if you are using the on-board sound
of your motherboard? If so, can anyone recommend some software I can use?

Cheers.

Audacity: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

I tried Audacity but could not get it to record. When setting the
playback/record preferences there was nothing listed in the recording drop
down box. Maybe it's not possible with on-board sound :(

Cheers.

Si Try the following.

Right click the speaker icon next to the clock, Left click recording
devices.Right click in an unoccupied part of the pane and click show
disabled devices. With a bit of luck, "stereo mix" or "what you hear" will
list. Right click and enable.

Audigy "should" list this as a recording source.

Vista can be a little fussy about sound controls. I use a professional
recording program called Audition ( Cool Edit ). It took some work
to configure my Sigma-Tel audio on my notebook to work with it.
You have to use the Sound Applet in Control Panel (Classic View )
Recording (Tab) and in my case use Stereo Mix. I also had to use
the Advanced properties to change the sampling rate to something
beyond the normal 41K it defaults to.

I don't have a speaker icon next to the clock :) So I open the sound applet
in control panel and click on the recording tab. There are 3 things listed
there. 2 microphone and 1 line in. All 3 listed as not plugged in. I tried
right clicking and checked show disabled devices but nothing else showed up.

Any other advice?

It might help to know what Sound chipset you have in your PC.
Also, are you using the latest drivers ?

Sorry, I meant to mention that earlier. It's Realtek ALC883.
