Hello everyone - I need help!

I am trying to access some files (videos & photos) from a USB external hard
drive. However - when I try to open a few certain folders on the HD, It
freezes and eventually displays that the folder was not accessible and had an
I/O device error.
It has worked in the past and I have accessed these files many times in the
previous weeks/months. Is there something I can do?
I'm allowed to open numerous other files with no problems.

Sounds/looks like the hard drive may be failing. Hard drives are a
mecanical device and they do fail. You need to run the USB drive
manufacturer's diagnostics but after saving the files you can
eleswhere.

Where do I find the hard drive manufacturer's diagnostics?

If you don't understand such terms, click "Start / Help",
then search for Event Viewer. Right at the bottom there
is a nice menu item titled "Using Event Viewer".

There is a lot of help in Windows Help!

Click Start, Help and Support, look up Event Viewer. (It records error
messages)
