Refurbished items have been "rebuilt" to meet oem specifications for thier
new equitment. However, some items can/could be a demo unit that was used
from the mfg for a very short time, its been tested and has such little use
it gets
tagged as "refurbished"...Remember,it passed the test then, but could have a
flaw somewhere, the equitment usually always sells at 1/2 or below new
prices...

A refurbished item may be brand new and even never open in
the box, for instance, if somebody ordered a computer system
and UPS delivered or was unable to deliver and it was
returned to the builder, it can't legally be sold as "new".
Or it could be a well used computer that needed to be
cleaned of a years dust and grunge.

A refurb from a reliable source is a good buy in most cases.

I bought a refurbished HP Pavilion a couple years ago. Absolutely no
problems, but it was more like 20% off rather than 50%.
