RE: The .NET security updates

I don't mean to sound like a pest or anything but there are 3 .NET updates
that my system has been trying to install for the past 2 1/2 months. I have
completely shut down the system on many occasion after download but they will
not go in.

Now what in the world is going on?

How to troubleshoot Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 installation issues if
required:

Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1

Open Windows Explorer and locate these paths:
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution = Delete all Folders in the Right
Pane/Window (like download,updates..etc.)
Then this path:
C:\Windows\Temp\Temporary InternetFiles\IE.5Content = Delete all here.

Open a run command and type in:
sfc /scannow click [OK] let it run then Reboot into Safe Mode and Defrag
your system.

2... Secondly, try to clean up your caches, Internet files and delete cookies
by doing this:
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Taps:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced
Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.
Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.
For Malware download both these software:

http://www.safer-networking.org for Spybot S&D

Run windows Updates engine by going to the MS updates Site
and let the Wizard check for updates, when prompted to select from Express or
Custom Check and install updates, select Custom Instead of Express.
On the Express you will see the updates which windows want you to download
one of them will be Net Framework click the Plus [+] sign to expand and
uncheck both Boxes to not select this update to be installed and to never
show this updates again click View and Install and install any other security
updates then Close the IE and Reboot, does it show up?.

Do not be concerned by the Updates not installing for you and thousands
of others are having this problem and MS is aware of this. Go to Updates
and click Custom install, when it lists the Updates click the small + sign
in front of it and then on the bottom of the Update click "Do not show me
this Update again". This will eliminate the pestering little shield icon on
your taskbar. According to MS, Dell and HP, if the Update will not install
it is "not compatible with your system" (???), so you do not need to have
it installed. We'll probably get a better answer next year when MS comes
out with XP SP3. Searching with Google you'll find "fixes" for this problem,
but most will not work.

WHat I'm dealing with right now is...
Microsoft >NET Framework for
version 1.0 (SP3)
version 1.2 (SP1)
version 2.0 (security patch)

These three keep coming back to haunt me.

My questions at this time are...
1) Do I need .NET version below the current?
2) IF I don't, how do I get rid of it.
3) IF I do, how to remove what's there and reload them.

Some programs will ask about them ,so you need to keep them.
I don't understand if the installation of these programs were successful or
they coming back because incomplete installation?.
Did you run the windows updates and then select Custom instead of Express,
then see these updates and uncheck them, also by expanding the Plus [+] sign
you will see never show this update again try to check this check box and do
the same with reset of updates you don't want to be installed on your system.

If the installation interrupted or damaged, try to uninstalll them then
download them or see if any application will ask you to download .Net
Framework.
