Yea.

So what's wrong with this picture?

The only thing Linux lacks is users........

So what's wrong with this picture?

Rubbish
a) Linux comes from Unix and both Run and Run and Run. That's what
Operating Systems should do.
b) There is a Big Move from UNIX Servers to Linux, The Unix's are Now
Linux Friendly.
This move was Massive in 2006, a little less in 2007.
c) One of the Benefits of a Mac is Mac-Osx which comes from Unix.

I am writing this using Lenovo Desktop and Ubuntu Firefox,
Very Very Fast
Vista SP1 last Night, Hope that I will help.

It does not have a market share of .6%. You responds to a liar called Gary
Stewart. They perpetuate the Big Lie.

See the word DESKTOP ?????

I didn't think so...........

I'm thrilled you are running Linux, especially on a Lenovo machine.

Hopefully you didn't buy this one which barely runs Linux:

http://www.channelinsider.com/c/a/Reviews/Lenovo-Launches-Linux-Laptop-and-Leaves-Lots-of-Questions/

"The first part of the document covered ´features not supported.¡ Some of
those features are:

* ThinkVantage Active Protection System.
* ThinkVantage Access Connections for SUSE Linux
* ThinkPad Configuration for SUSE Linux
* ThinkPad Power Manager for SUSE Linux
* Wireless WAN Adapter
* ThinkVantage Button
* (Intel Graphics System) DVI Output "

Wow!!!

No wonder Linux has 0.6 percent, or less, of the desktop market.
Imagine the user booting that Lenovo POS for the first time and finding out
he has essentially purcahsed a brick.

GO LINUX!!!
You GO GIRL!!

You are wrong right out of the gate. Not a good start. (Hint - Linux does
NOT come from Unix.)

Moving exisitng servers from very expensive *nix to linux is a no-brainer.
So where's linux on the desktop??? Nowhere.

There was never a massive linux desktop move and there never will be.

You merely have to provide one approved way of measuring Linux

You forgot to mention Linux sells
3 million+ embedded Linux devices PER DAY!

Asstroturfing for micoshaft with anti-Linux rants behind every
post seems to be making you forget reality.

May be you should install some free Linux before you rant.

http://www.livecdlist.com
http://www.distrowatch.com

Its free to copy and install on as many machines as you want.
Since it comes with source code, you are free to modify and distribute
to heart's content as well.

Linux doesn't sell, the devices sell.
I don't care that my tomtom runs "linux" and neither do most people.
Unlike PCs where people do care if it runs linux or *not*.

Linux users do everything possible to steer the conversation away from
desktop Linux towards something more favorable to Linux.
Embedded devices, maybe servers, but anything other than the desktop.

Why?

Linux despite being free is still hovering around 0.6 percent of desktop
market share.
The BBC has it pegged at about 0.8 percent.
I think their numbers are high.

Actually PCs people don't care what it runs either. They primarily just
care that it works and does what it needs to...just like any other device.

Sure they care. Otherwise why aren't they using linux?

The difference is that a TomTom GPS, microwave oven, remote control, etc.
are all special purpose devices. What OS is running behind the keypad of the
microwave usually isn't visible to the user and they simply interact with
the special purpose device in a single well defined way.

Computers on the other hand are general purpose devices. Computers require
compatibility with printers, wireless cards, VPN software, iPods, etc. With
computers the user is often using the OS directly so the OS a desktop
computer uses is something that the user will often need to interact with.
Not so with a microwave or digital camera.
