Windows 2000 Re: network icons appear when opening outlook express

I'd very much doubt that OE itself is causing the problem, Klondike,
assuming the machine's already connected. You might check your settings at
OE Tools | Accounts | Mail | [account(s) | Properties | Connection, though.

figured out more on this issue.

It appears that when the machine was going into standy it was creating a
disconnect icon in the system tray as the machine was shutting down, for
whatever reason when the machine came out of standby the icon was not being
removed and thus when the user when it and out of standby it kept creating
icons. A reboot removed the icons. Adding a notification to show when
connected in the network properties appears to have stopped the issue.
