hi, i recently reinstalled windows xp home edition and now i have no sound.
Control panel, system, hardware, device manager shows the device cannot
start. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, still does not work. Control
panel, sounds and devices shows there is no audio device. I have realtek AC97.
I also reinstalled windows from scratch twice but same problem. anyone know
how i can fix this.

Install the Realtek drivers from the website.

You probably need chipset and other drivers specific to your
motherboard in order to enable the soundcard and other hardware
features. You should be able to download them from the manufacturer.

What happens when you download and install the WinXP-specific audio
drivers, as provided by your sound card's or computer's manufacturer?
