I just got stuck in the same situation. Horrified. Our company backs up all
of our corporate stuff and each of our "My Documents", but I didn't realize
some of these payroll folders on our HR clerks weren't being backed up. When
I ran Files and Settings Transfer, I stored it on a second drive. Then
reformatted her drive. When I wanted to restore, the same story as you.
After searching on the web, I downloaded KB896344. After I rebooted, it
restored the dat file on my second drive. I sure hope you find the solution
for you dat file.
