Well, whatever is holding my memory, it prevents me
from uploading a site that I'm doing for a friend of mine.
I did another site for friend #1 in FrontPage 2000 and it'll
upload from FP2000 just fine. But site #2 won't upload because
of the memory that needs freed for some reason. Because of the
memory hold, I also can't FTP from XP or any other software used
for FTPing. The problem had to occur after I did the site #1 a little over
a month
ago. Other than that, I guess I could just ignore it, but I
like using FrontPage 2000 to do the websites for these two friends
of mine. I just can't figure out how to release that dang memory and I
don't know what exactly is holding it. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I don't believe that the two are related to each other.

What's the difference between site# 1 and site# 2? If site 1 presents no problems
then something in the files for site 2 is causing the glitch - maybe a piece of code
or even a picture. Try recreating site 2, one small piece at a time. Each time you
add a bit of code or data or a picture, try uploading it and watch for the error. Be
sure to save multiple copies of the website so you can go back to a working set of
files when the error does occur.

You've already done most of the troubleshooting by reloading (reformatting) and it
doesn't sound like you have a hardware problem - hardware/memory problems are
generally not restricted to presenting symptoms during the operation of a single
program or function. Hardware failures typically cause many different issues in
almost every application you run.

Good luck and please post any results back to this thread. In addition, please be on
the lookout for any other symptoms or abnormalities, no matter how minor you think
they may be. Some computer problems come right out and announce themselves - these
are the easy ones to fix. Others are more subtle and require patience and vigilance
- but ALL ARE SOLVABLE!

There is nothing different about either site. Both simple amateur sites for
a horse group and a horse farm.
Site #1 (www.pnhainc.com)presents no problems whatsoever. Works perfectly
when I want
to upload from FP2000.
Site #2 done about a month after site #1 (www.7thheavenhorsefarm.com) will
not take my password. It keeps spitting it out and the screen pops
up for me to retype the password. It's done this with any ftp program I've
used also (5 programs and yes, I reset
the FP Extensions each time giving 24 hours rest between the reset each
time). I am totally positive of my
user name and password so it's not a matter of typing in the wrong
information. I called
Godaddy and explained the problem and they said (keeping me on hold for 45
min. at least 10 times we tried to find a solution to my problem) that
they've tested my site with my user name and password and it works fine on
their end. Said my extensions were
working perfectly.
They blamed the problem on something holding my cache. Well, I cleaned out
the temp files
and the cache in FP and it still wouldn't work. I used FP Cleaner each and
every time I closed down or
started up FP just to be sure the cache and the temp files were empty.
Still, it won't take the password.
I have talked to Godaddy and they've tested everything including the working
extensions and they've
said time and time again with 10 different people that I've had test the
site, that something is holding
my cache and they don't help with Front Page so they said it's on my end and
I have to find a solution. A month 1/2
later, I still can't figure it out. I think I'll reconstruct each page as
you suggested for site #2 and see if I can
narrow it down. I even downloaded Web Expression and tried that program and
I'm still having the password
acceptance problem in Expression. Since I've uninstalled and reinstalled FP
after clean installs, it's gotta be
something in those pages. I can't see where it would be anything else so I
guess I'll try your solution and see
how far that gets me. I asked Godaddy to just wipe the site clean and I'd
start over, but they wouldn't do that
for some reason. Oh well. I'm not giving up. This is driving me crazy and I
hate to lose to a computer, lol !!!
Thanks so much for your input. I REALLY appreciate it. You've saved this
lady from going completely bald !!!
Best wishes.....
