Hey, I recently had this same issue and stumbled on this thread while
trying to find a fix.
For me, restarting explorer didn't work, but i was able to right click
on my desktop.
I added the base icons, but was still missing a lot of my stuff. I
eventually found it in the recycling bin (seriously).
So yeah- here's to hoping i can convince my boss to go back to XP!
