1) Writing a program that connects 100+ sockets and had 300+ file
descriptors and is actually using the network and disk writing.
(actual case from my own experience 3 years ago).

Works great under linux and did not work under Windows.

2) Not having license limitations.

3) Not having to deal with viruses

4) Not needing to deal with scheduled task nonsense

Things got a little better for Windows after introduction of Cygwin,
though.
