Thanks Thee Chicago Wolf for replying!
I have too many programmes and old custom settings which it would be
very difficult to recover after a clean format and install. I followed
microsoft support recommendation: run Windows upgrade installation
under windows, shut down computer when it automatically restarted,
replaced motherboard, turned on the computer, the installation
completed successfully, I installed all the needed new drivers and
windows updates.

When doing a "Upgrade" it's common to have problems, that's why most
people do a full install instead of an Upgrade.

It sounds like you have a heat problem, or that you didn't properly
install the heat-sink, but it could easily be a driver that is causing
the problem.

There are just too many variables to know for sure what the problem is.

A wipe/reinstall on a new hard-drive would let you know if it's drivers
or hardware.

Everest and Asus Probe 2 show that CPU surface tempreture is never
higher than 45C, and CPU core tempreture is never higher than 56C,
motherboard tempreture is never higher than 45C under full load.

Go purchase a cheap new drive, remove the old one (to save for later),
and install from scratch - once you've done this you will then know, if
it works without problem, that your hardware is fine and that the drives
you've loaded/software you are using is fine.

Now, you can start installing software until it breaks.

You could also consider doing a Windows XP Repair/Install so that you
reload the OS without having to wipe the drive.

You will never be able to fix this problem due to the manner in which
you went about the upgrade. You have to re-install clean no matter
WHAT Microsoft says. You've gone from an early platform to a DUAL-CORE
platform. You will be experiencing problems because you've gone from
single CPU to dual. When installing, the system is configured for
single or 2-or-more configuration. There isn't any way around it that
I am aware of except to re-install.

I run an Windows upgrade install to replace the motherboard. Is the
Windows upgrade install equal to a Windows XP Repair/Install for this
purpose?

No idea, I've never done it that way. I've always done a clean install
or a repair/reinstall method.

I really suggest that you get a new hard drive, even a cheap 40GB refurb
- about $30, and install clean to test your hardware. None here are
going to be able to tell you where the problem is with so many possible
problems. You need to isolate it to hardware or software, and without a
fresh install it's going to be dang near impossible to do that.

It looks like unchecking "Enable write combining" in "ATI Radeo HD
2600 Properties" window prevents the computer stops. How to "Enable
write combining" without the computer stops?
