Hy everbody.
I have a rare problem with a pc.
The pc worked fine since a day which it began work slowly.

At home, I installed a new XP with your SP2... and it worked correctly.
Two days at cosumer's home, the pc work slowly again.
I don't know where is the problem, because the pc never had had
problems, but at costumer's home always has problems.

I froze the SO with Depp freeze, so the costumer can do anything.

What kind of problem can be?

Now There are 'gaps' when we listen music, the directories don't open,
it work very slowly...

It can be the battery? any cable?

Thank you very much and excuse me for my english

Carles

Hard drive errors may have placed the drive access in PIO mode, instead
of DMA. Please check in the Device Manager for the Primary IDE channel
is running in DMA. If fail to PIO, remove and allow the IDE to reinstall.

Laptop or Desktop?

How much RAM memory? How large is your drive and how much free space?

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance
Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?

Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in
the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for the last boot. No
Information Reports or Duplicates please. Indicate which also appear in
a previous boot.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using copy
and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further
information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

More likely, the user download some pornography and a load of Trojans, that
are using his computer as a proxy. Did he have his firewall ON? Does he
have anti-virus and all the other protection needed on the Internet?

256 mb RAM memory may be the problem. More may be the answer. The Task
Manager results could reveal the system is over reliant on the pagefile.

If the computer has Norton or McAfee this would likely put excessive
demands on the system when they routinely scan.

Yes, and when errors cause it to switch to PIO mode, it slows down. You
simply check it as described. Most things do work properly for some time
before failures occur.

Hi again,
I've took off de second disk and it work correctly. I think that is a
second's disk problem, but i don't know how know it.

It can be two things:
The disk is wrong (defective)
The pc can't work with a disk of 320 Gb. But few months ago it could
cope with the disk?
Any advice to know it?

Thank you very much

Carles

Vist the drive manufacturers web site, download and run their diagnostic
utility on the drive.

Carlos, sounds like you need to change the ide cable connecting the 2
hard drives to the mobo--it needs to be 80-strand cabling, not the standard
40-strand. HTH & good luck, s
