Hi,

I have an HP laptop running Vista Home premium and every now and then I
get a Zone Alarm popup about Raid Monitor wanting to access the internet.

I know what Raid controllers are but would like to know what the raid
monitor request is all about? My guess is that it is checking for any
updates but I really don't know.

Is raid monitor necessary? Can I disable it and if so, how? It is not
listed under services nor is it in the startup program lists.

Thanks, Fred

If you are using RAID, do not get rid of the monitor, as it monitors the
health of the array(s). As SMART does not work with RAID, it is the only
way you are going to get any warning of anything going wrong with your hard
drives.

SS, Thanks for the information.

I have a raid controller in this laptop but the drive is set up as a
single HDD and that's all - does this make any difference?

A laptop with a RAID controller? I have never heard of that. What model is
it?

If you only have one drive, you do not need the RAID monitor, although it
will probably be able to show SMART warnings, which could be useful if you
do not have any other SMART software. But basically, you can get rid of it.
